MEET NICOLE HUGGINS
I immigrated in my childhood. While waiting to enter the U.S., we lived in Italy. Teachers there and I could not understand each other, so my mother pulled me out of school. Instead, when we enjoyed our new-found freedom by traveling. The incredible art and architecture I saw in Italy ignited my love of art. Upon arriving in the U.S. I grew up on the East Coast and continued to tour museums whenever I could. I used drawing as an outlet for my teenage angst and designed anything from homes to clothing. My high school art teacher recommended I pursue art as a vocation. We visited some programs, but my mother encouraged me to go to college and pursue art "later." I ended up studying philosophy, political science, and economics. Later took a turn as my majors led me to a career in law. I continued to take art classes though and to draw or paint. I also continued to travel and explore. We raised our family in Colorado, surrounded by the beauty of nature. Not surprisingly my artwork gravitated toward landscapes and the natural world. I have worked in pencil, watercolor, oil, acrylic, and for the last few years in soft pastels. I have also taken many photographs as ideas for my paintings or on their own right. Recently I was fortunate to have the opportunity to retire and pursue my passion for art. Finally, later is now.
